Olympic & Major Sports Event Outreach Ideas
Purpose of this page:
To suggest methods to use the many resources available for evangelism in your community around the theme of a major sports event.
Suggested Ideas for Community Sports Outreach:
1. Event Weekend: A special event theme weekend could be held in your church or other location. Focus your music, message, activities, and prayer on outreach.
2. Organize a sports tournament. The interest lies in what can be experienced and communicated before the match (preparation, organization), during the match (players' behavior, half-time talk) and after the match (meal, athlete testimonies, presentation of the medals, celebration). Pass out literature to all in attendance.
3. Neighborhood outreach by inviting friends to your home or to a giant screen in a church hall to watch event matches. Show one of the event ministry videos before the match or at half-time in a relaxed atmosphere. Pass out literature for those in attendance to take home.
4. Create short and eye-catching advertisement inserts in your local newspapers, letting people know that ministry resources are available.
5. Create evangelistic meetings, concerts, seminars, etc. incorporating an event ministry theme.
6. Conduct a children’s vacation bible school incorporating an event ministry theme.
7. Organize a sports match with another team in one or several prisons (working with the prison chaplain). Share testimonies and pass out literature if permissible.
8. Give literature to friends, co-workers, etc. or distribute literature door-to-door in your neighborhood.
9. If not directly involved in an event outreach activity, please pray for those developing outreach activities.
